The Ashley's
A passion for grilling passed down
Ashley's Beginnings
Mr. Thomas Ashley, Jr. took a leap of faith to leave his job of nine years at A. O. Smith Corp in 1961 to start Ashley’s. He borrowed $350 from friends to start selling his food at the Center Street Haymarket, a farmer’s market at 3032 W. Center St. He got the opportunity to open a drive-up restaurant three years later on 1501 W. Center St. His slogan was, “When better Bar-B-Q is made, I will make it” reflecting the dedication Thomas put into his barbeque “hobby.”
Fast forward to the present moment, his legacy of great food and love for his family is reflected in the passion his son has shown by continuing the business. Darnell Ashley worked alongside his father for many years as he took over the company. He added some of his flavor to the recipes and business. He proudly shares the same passion for food with the community his father started 60-plus years ago.
As Darnell and Tony start a new chapter with Ashley's Que Too, they look forward to serving more generations to come. Their slogan is “Where Friends Meet” to reflect the community connection and the power food has to connect people.
